Reasons To Be Thankful For Senior Pets

November 15, 2023

November is Senior Pet Month. We also have Thanksgiving coming up shortly. Senior pets are definitely on the list of things that we are thankful for! They’re not only super cute, they’re also very sweet and charming, and have some unique qualities that make them great animal companions. A local Des Moines, IA vet lists a few reasons to be grateful for our older animal friends in this article.

Calm Demeanors

Puppies and kittens are very playful and energetic, which is one reason they’re so much fun. However, Fluffy and Fido need a lot of activity and entertainment when they’re young. By the time your furry friends are in their golden years, they’ll have mostly burned off their zoomies, and will spend most of their time snoozing. They also often develop a super sweet, loving personality that is just delightful.

Less Destruction

A side benefit of having a calmer pet? Your four-legged pal won’t be as interested in digging up your flower bed, going through your trash, or knocking everything off your counters. Fluffy and Fido will still need some entertainment, of course, but they’re pretty laid back at this point in their lives.

Prior Training

Getting a baby dog or cat is always exciting, but it’s also lots of work. Little Fido needs a lot of training and petucation to learn how to become a good boy. Kittens also need a lot of oversight and attention during that adorable toddler stage. Older animals, however, already know what is expected of them. No petucation needed! (This also makes them very easy to care for.)

All The Love

Many of our furry pals become extra affectionate in their golden years. Fido may want nothing more than to doze peacefully at your feet, while Fluffy may demand that you let her snuggle up on your lap or move over so she can curl up next to you at night. There’s something extra special and extra beautiful about senior pet purrs and tail wags.

They’re Adorable

Fluffy and Fido will never stop being cute. Many people find that their furry pals somehow become even more charming as they age. Purrs and tail wags from a sweet, gentle older animal can truly melt your heart.

Time Is Precious

If there’s one thing we can learn from older pets, it’s that time is truly precious. Savor these special days with your furry best friend.
