Choosing Cat Toys

September 15, 2023
One of the many cute things about our feline pals is the fact that they are so cute. Fluffy is especially adorable when she’s feeling frisky or playful. Playing is of course really fun for cats, but it’s also great for them. Smacking that stuffed mouse or tiny ball around is a great workout for your furry little friend. It’s also great for her mind. It’s important to make sure your furball always has lots of toys to smack around. While picking out Fluffy’s playthings isn’t exactly rocket science, there are some things to keep in mind. A local Des Moines, IA vet goes over some of them below.

Purrsonality

Cats are all unique, and they all have their own tastes. Some kitties like wand toys, while others prefer catnip mice.Try different things, and see what your furry friend likes best.

Smart Toys

Fluffy clearly has some fans—or minions—in the tech sector. There are plenty of cute modern and high tech toys that you can offer your furry pal. Smart toys may react to your pet’s movements, which is of course super cute to watch. You can also try giving your kitty a remote-controlled mouse or perhaps an automated laser pointer.

DIY Options

You don’t have to break the bank getting your feline friend her playthings. Many cats have just as much fun batting at a bottlecap or a crumpled-up piece of paper as they would pouncing on a catnip mouse. Or, if you are feeling crafty, you can actually sew a catnip mouse by hand. Fluffy may also enjoy a box castle. You’ll find lots of ideas and instructions online. Just be sure to stick with safe options. (Note: Don’t offer your cat anything with sharp parts or small pieces.)

Tips

Toys are great, but it’s also important for you to play with your feline pal. Interactive play is much more challenging—and therefore much more fun—for your little buddy. Take a few minutes a day to hold that wand toy or laser pointer. If you have more than one cat, you’ll need to be careful to give both kitties equal playtime. Cats can get very jealous of one another! You’ll also want to pick up wand toys after each use, as Fluffy could get entangled if she tries to use it by herself. Last but not least, remember to regularly rescue those playthings from under the couch. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns about your pet’s health or care.
