Bouquets

Flowers are a sweet and romantic gift. However, they can be dangerous for pets. Many flowers are toxic to Fluffy and Fido. Lilies are also poisonous to kitties. Some flowers, like roses, aren’t toxic, but are still unsafe because of their thorns. If you get a bouquet, put it in a spot your pet can’t access.

Chocolate

Don’t get us wrong: we love chocolate. Unfortunately, though, it isn’t safe for pets. Chocolate contains caffeine and theobromine, which are both toxic to our animal friends. In large amounts, it can even be fatal! Don’t let your pet have any of your chocolates.

Booze

Even a small amount of alcohol can make your furry BFF very sick! Alcohol can cause serious problems, including tremors, respiratory issues, vomiting, and diarrhea. If your pet drinks a large amount, he or she could even go into a coma!

Candies

Many popular candies contain xylitol, which is poisonous to pets, and can even cause seizures. Hard candies are also choking hazards. Even candy wrappers can be dangerous. Go ahead and indulge, but keep your ‘stash’ away from your pet.

Candles

Candles, potpourri burners, and fireplaces can all set the mood for a romantic night. However, pets and flames are a very dangerous mix! Keep candles and potpourri burners in high spots your dog or cat can’t reach. (Tip: sconces are a good bet.) If you use a fireplace, put a secure grate in front of it. Better safe than sorry!

Wrap It Up

Ribbons, bows, cellophane, and tissue paper are all dangerous to our furry pals. They can choke or entangle frisky pets, and can cause serious intestinal blockages if ingested. Keep presents well out of reach of those cute paws.

Cards

Never underestimate Fido’s appetite. Those cute musical cards often contain small batteries, which are toxic to dogs. Others may have glitter or glue on them, which also isn’t safe for pets.
