4 Occasions to Consider Boarding Your Pet

July 1, 2018
Have you boarded your pet recently? Our furry pals can’t go everywhere with us, so sooner or later, you may need to board your animal companion. The most common time for people to bring their four-legged buddies to pet hotels is when they leave town. However, there are some other times when boarding may be a great option. Here, a Des Moines, IA vet lists some times to consider boarding.

Moving Day

Moving is exciting, but it’s also stressful and a lot of hard work. This can be a dangerous time for our animal companions. You don’t want Fluffy or Fido underfoot or running out the door as movers are bringing things in or out. This can be especially dangerous if you’re in a strange neighborhood! If you’re moving locally, you may only need to board your pet on moving day. If you’re going long-distance, board on the day your belongings are picked up, and again when they’re delivered.

Major Events

Life’s major events, such as weddings, births, and graduations, can get pretty hectic. Consider boarding your furry friend for the day of the event. This will let you focus on the big day without worrying about your pet.

Renovations

If you’re doing a long, slow renovation, it may more sense to block off that area so your pet can’t get to it. However, for shorter, more chaotic projects, such as putting in a new carpet, you may want to bring your four-legged friend to a hotel instead. You don’t want Fido or Fluffy stepping on nails, running out an open door, or getting in the way.

Medical Procedures

This one of course depends on both your pet and the procedure. If you’re just having some dental work done, you may want your furry buddy to snuggle up with while you relax and binge-watch your favorite shows. For more invasive procedures, however, you may want to board your pet. Consult your doctor and your veterinarian.

Tips

Choosing the right facility is very important. Do some research, and ask for recommendations. We also recommend bringing pets in for overnight stays before leaving on longer trips. These trial runs help pets get used to their ‘home away from home,’ making longer stays much easier on them. Do you need to board your pet? Contact us, your Des Moines, IA pet clinic, today.
