Laparoscopic Spays are Available for Des Moines Dogs & Cats

Laparoscopic Spays – Because Your Pet Deserves up to 65% LESS PAIN!

The Veterinarians and Healthcare Team at Ingersoll Animal Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa continue to work to provide the best medical and surgical care available to our treasured pets. The Ingersoll Animal Hospital veterinarians are proud to offer a less stressful laparoscopic surgical spay option for our Des Moines dogs and cats. A laparoscopic spay cause less surgical stress and up to 65% less pain versus a traditional open surgical spay. When a laparoscopic spay is performed the procedure is done through three tiny incisions in the abdomen, 5mm in size. The procedure uses a camera to magnify the views of the organs allowing for greater visibility and allowing greater precision. In a traditional spay a larger incision is made in the abdomen where the ovarian ligament is blindly torn from the abdominal wall increasing the risk for bruising and postoperative pain. In a laparoscopic spay the ovarian ligament is carefully cut and cauterized, rather than torn. Laparoscopic spays offer patients up to 65% less pain[1], minimal recovery pain and less trauma than traditional spays. Smaller incisions are less painful and help reduce recovery time. Advantages of Laparoscopic Spays over Traditional Surgery:

  • The entire surgery is performed through a few tiny incisionsrather than a larger abdominal opening. Smaller incisions are less painful and reduce recovery time.

  • In larger breed dogs a gastropexy can be performed at the same time to help reduce the risk of potentially deadly gastric torsion.
