Veterinary Dental Health For Des Moines Pets

October 16, 2013
Animal Dental Care – Dentistry For Pets by Dr. Nancy Peterson at Ingersoll Animal Hospital Veterinary dentists know that good dental health is an important part of your pet’s overall well-being. An unhealthy mouth can lead to any number of medical problems from simple bad breath to severe mouth pain and illnesses like kidney and heart disease. At Ingersoll Animal Hospital we believe that prevention is key and as such we provide a wide number of veterinary dental care services for our patients to help keep your pet’s mouth healthy and pain free. Our veterinarians and veterinary dental technicians understand the importance of a healthy pain-free mouth for our pets and have special training in veterinary dentistry to give your pet the skilled professional dental care they need. One of the most common problems affecting our Des Moines pets is dental disease. Veterinary dentists know that 70-80% of our dogs and cats have dental disease by age 3! Periodontal disease is caused by gingivitis or the continuous build-up of plaque and tarter. If left untreated it can lead to pain and discomfort for your pet, tooth and gum damage and many other health problems throughout your pet’s body. The advanced stages of periodontal disease can lead to heart, liver, kidney, and lung disease. Our veterinary dental technicians are trained to thoroughly clean your pet’s teeth under anesthetic, both above and below the gum line using state of the art equipment and techniques similar to those of your own dentist. A thorough oral exam under anesthetic and dental radiographs are necessary to accurately diagnose and treat dental problems in our pets. Should any diseased teeth need to be removed during a dental cleaning, our veterinarians are also trained in a variety of techniques for surgical extractions.

Our veterinary dental services include:

  • Dental Cleaning (Treatment and Polishing under Anesthetic)
  • Surgical Extractions
  • Endodontics
  • Pediatric Dentistry
When it comes to your animal’s dental care, a healthy mouth means a healthier life.
